Good News | SCBM Wins Second-Class Prize of the 2025 National Science and Technology Progress Award

On July 8, the 2025 National Science and Technology Award Conference was grandly held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, where the complete list of winners for the 2025 National Science and Technology Awards was announced. The project titled "Development of Avian Influenza Vaccines and Key Technologies for Source Control and Application," led by South China Agricultural University, with Guangzhou South China Biological Medicine Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "SCBM") and its controlling shareholder, Ringpu Biological Co., Ltd., serving as primary contributing units, was honored with the Second-Class Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

The National Science and Technology Progress Award is one of the most authoritative and influential national scientific and technological accolades in China. This award represents national-level recognition of SCBM's deep commitment to animal disease prevention and control, its industry-university-research collaborative innovation, and its achievements in industrialization.
This project, led by South China Agricultural University, identified three major challenges in the source control of avian influenza in China and elucidated new mechanisms related to the virus's transmission and mutation. It led to the creation of China's first wholly avian-origin recombinant avian influenza inactivated vaccine and the world's first H5 subtype avian influenza inactivated vaccine specifically for waterfowl. Furthermore, it established the world's first reverse genetics vaccine development platform for wholly avian-origin avian influenza viruses, achieving groundbreaking originality.

As a primary contributing unit, SCBM was responsible for the joint development, industrial validation, process conversion, and market deployment of the project's outcomes. Leveraging the project's core technological system, SCBM has iteratively developed multiple avian influenza inactivated vaccine series, including products such as the Reassortant Avian Influenza Virus (H5 Subtype) Bivalent Vaccine, Inactivated (H5N6 Strain rHN503+H5N1 Strain rHN504) and the Reassortant Avian Influenza Virus(H5+H7) Quadrivalent Vaccine, Inactivated(H5N6 Strain rHN503+H5N1 Strain rHN504, H7N9 Strain rHN705+Strain rHN706). All these products have successfully obtained New Veterinary Drug Registration Certificates and product approval numbers. They have been applied on a large scale nationwide, significantly contributing to China's global leadership in comprehensive high-pathogenicity avian influenza prevention and control and ensuring the healthy development of the poultry industry. Additionally, some products have been exported to overseas markets, sharing Chinese expertise in global avian influenza control.
SCBM consistently regards scientific and technological innovation as its core driver for development, deeply integrating academic research through industry-university-research collaboration to build a full-industry-chain innovation pathway that spans "basic research – vaccine development – large-scale production – market promotion." This achievement of the Second-Class National Science and Technology Progress Award is not only a key milestone in SCBM's research journey but also a new starting point.
Looking ahead, SCBM will continue to increase R&D investment, focus on pioneering and leading technologies for animal disease prevention and control, and persistently develop and launch high-quality veterinary biologics. This will contribute to the green, safe, and high-quality development of the livestock and poultry farming industry.
