Avian Influenza

 

1. Estonia reports 2 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 12 and 13, Estonia reported 2 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in two locations including West Viru County, resulting in the infection and death of 7 wild birds.  

 

2. France reports 5 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 12, 14, and 16, France reported 5 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in three locations including Deux-Sèvres, with 377 poultry infected and dead, and 126,000 culled.  

 

3. Iraq reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 12, Iraq reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in Salah al-Din Province, infecting 5,000 poultry and resulting in 1,000 deaths.  

 

4. The Netherlands reports 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry and 4 outbreaks in wild birds  

On January 12 and 15, the Netherlands reported 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry and 4 outbreaks in wild birds in four locations including Flevoland, with 455 poultry infected, 260 dead, and 67,000 culled, and 15 wild birds infected and dead.  

 

5. Poland reports 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry  

On January 12 and 13, Poland reported 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 3 outbreaks in poultry in two locations including Lublin Voivodeship, with 266 wild birds and free-range poultry infected and 86 dead, and 20,800 poultry infected and 4,781 dead.  

 

6. Hungary reports 5 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 12 and 13, Hungary reported 5 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in two locations including Nógrád County, resulting in the infection and death of multiple poultry.  

 

7. Latvia reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 and 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N2 in wild birds  

On January 12, Latvia reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 and 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N2 in wild birds in Saldus District, resulting in the infection and death of 3 wild birds.  

 

8. Belgium reports 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 12 and 15, Belgium reported 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in Flanders, with 121,000 poultry infected, 968 dead, and 350,000 culled.  

 

9. Germany reports 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 12 and 15, Germany reported 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in two locations including Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, with 1,295 poultry infected, 1,158 dead, and 138,000 culled.  

 

10. Slovenia reports 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 13, Slovenia reported 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in Dolenjska, resulting in the infection and death of 3 wild birds.  

 

11. Czech Republic reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 13, the Czech Republic reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in Liberec Region, resulting in the infection and death of 3 wild birds.  

 

12. Austria reports 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 13 and 16, Austria reported 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in two locations including Tyrol, resulting in the infection and death of 4 wild birds.  

 

13. Japan reports 2 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 13, Japan reported 2 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in two locations including Hokkaido, with 43 poultry infected and dead, and 13,000 culled.  

 

14. Italy reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 13, Italy reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in Veneto, with 84,000 poultry infected, 45 dead, and 184,000 culled.  

 

15. Switzerland reports 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 14, Switzerland reported 3 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in two locations including Thurgau and Vaud, resulting in the infection and death of 5 wild birds.  

 

16. Sweden reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N2 in wild birds  

On January 15, Sweden reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N2 in wild birds in Sölvesborg, resulting in the infection and death of 1 wild bird.  

 

17. Spain reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry  

On January 14, Spain reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in poultry in Catalonia, with 180 poultry infected and dead, and 9,320 culled.  

 

18. Canada reports 2 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 4 outbreaks in poultry  

On January 14, Canada reported 2 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 4 outbreaks in poultry in four locations including Alberta, with 6 wild birds and free-range poultry infected and dead, 174 culled, and 11 poultry infected and dead.  

 

19. USA reports 23 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 24 outbreaks in poultry  

On January 14 and 16, the USA reported 23 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds and 24 outbreaks in poultry in ten locations including Texas, with 715 wild birds and free-range poultry infected and dead, 1,230 culled, and 4,099 poultry infected and dead, and 762,000 culled.  

 

20. USA reports 7 outbreaks of HPAI H5 in wild birds  

On January 14, the USA reported 7 outbreaks of HPAI H5 in wild birds in five locations including Kansas, with 13 wild birds and free-range poultry infected and dead, and 50 culled.  

 

21. Norway reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 15, Norway reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in Trondheim, resulting in the infection and death of 1 wild bird.  

 

22. Ukraine reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 16, Ukraine reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in Kyiv, resulting in the infection and death of 2 wild birds.  

 

23. Denmark reports 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 16, Denmark reported 4 outbreaks of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in four locations including Slagelse, resulting in the infection and death of 4 wild birds.  

 

24. Moldova reports 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds  

On January 16, Moldova reported 1 outbreak of HPAI H5N1 in wild birds in Teleneşti District, resulting in the infection and death of 2 wild birds.  

 

 

Other Animal Diseases

 

1. Poland reports 2 outbreaks of Newcastle disease  

On January 12, Poland reported 2 outbreaks of Newcastle disease in Greater Poland Voivodeship, infecting 152,000 poultry, resulting in 1,725 dead, and 23,000 culled.  

 

2. South Sudan reports 1 outbreak of anthrax  

On January 12, South Sudan reported 1 outbreak of anthrax in Warrap State, infecting 133 cattle and 170 sheep and goats, resulting in 61 cattle and 110 sheep and goats dead.

 

3. France reports 1 outbreak of lumpy skin disease  

On January 13, France reported 1 outbreak of lumpy skin disease in Ariège, infecting 1 cattle.  

 

4. Romania reports 3 outbreaks of Echinococcus granulosus infection  

On January 14, Romania reported 3 outbreaks of Echinococcus granulosus infection in Neamț County, infecting 4 cattle.  

 

5. Germany reports 1 outbreak of bluetongue (serotype 8)  

On January 13, Germany reported 1 outbreak of bluetongue (serotype 8) in North Rhine-Westphalia, infecting 1 cattle.  

 

6. Bosnia and Herzegovina reports 3 outbreaks of bluetongue (serotype 8)  

On January 15, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported 3 outbreaks of bluetongue (serotype 8) in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, infecting 7 sheep, resulting in 6 dead.  

 

7. Hungary reports 2 outbreaks of Aujeszky's disease  

On January 16, Hungary reported 2 outbreaks of Aujeszky's disease in Somogy County, infecting 18 pigs.  

 

8. Eswatini reports 4 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease  

On January 12, Eswatini reported 3 outbreaks of SAT1 and 1 outbreak of SAT2, totaling 4 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in two locations including Manzini, infecting 112 cattle.  

 

9. South Africa reports 64 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (SAT2)  

On January 13 and 16, South Africa reported 64 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (SAT2) in three locations including Mpumalanga, infecting 391 cattle, resulting in 28 dead.  

 

10. Zimbabwe reports 2 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (SAT1)  

On January 15, Zimbabwe reported 2 outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease (SAT1) in Matabeleland South Province, infecting 54 cattle.

 

 

African Swine Fever

 

1. Hungary reports 17 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 12, Hungary reported 17 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in three locations including Fejér County, resulting in the infection and death of 19 wild boars.  

 

2. Spain reports 4 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 12 and 16, Spain reported 4 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in Catalonia, resulting in the infection and death of 17 wild boars.  

 

3. Poland reports 119 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 12, Poland reported 119 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in ten locations including West Pomeranian Voivodeship, resulting in the infection and death of 225 wild boars.  

 

4. Angola reports 1 outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs  

On January 12, Angola reported 1 outbreak of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Huambo Province, infecting 25 domestic pigs and resulting in 6 deaths.  

 

5. South Africa reports 7 outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs  

On January 12, South Africa reported 7 outbreaks of African swine fever in domestic pigs in two locations including Eastern Cape Province, infecting 973 domestic pigs, resulting in 826 deaths and 29 culled.  

 

6. Latvia reports 26 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 12, Latvia reported 26 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in Saldus District, resulting in the infection and death of 26 wild boars.  

 

7. Italy reports 61 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 13 and 16, Italy reported 61 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in four locations including Piedmont, resulting in the infection and death of 61 wild boars.  

 

8. Moldova reports 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 outbreak in domestic pigs  

On January 13, Moldova reported 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 outbreak in domestic pigs in two locations including Hîncești District, resulting in the infection and death of 2 wild boars, and the infection and death of 7 domestic pigs, with 68 culled.  

 

9. Estonia reports 6 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 14 and 15, Estonia reported 6 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars in five locations including Viljandi County, resulting in the infection and death of 8 wild boars.  

 

10. Ukraine reports 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars  

On January 15, Ukraine reported 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, resulting in the infection and death of 5 wild boars.  

 

11. Serbia reports 10 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 outbreak in domestic pigs  

On January 16, Serbia reported 10 outbreaks of African swine fever in wild boars and 1 outbreak in domestic pigs in West Bačka District, resulting in the infection and death of 17 wild boars, and the infection and culling of 2 domestic pigs.  

 

12. Bosnia and Herzegovina reports 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars and 4 outbreaks in domestic pigs  

On January 16, Bosnia and Herzegovina reported 1 outbreak of African swine fever in wild boars and 4 outbreaks in domestic pigs in Republika Srpska, resulting in the infection and death of 1 wild boar, and the infection of 46 domestic pigs, with 38 deaths and 95 culled.
